PFSP Easter egg hunt successful

Portage Family Skate Park held an Easter egg hunt on April 5 at Goodyear Park in Portage. Two golden eggs were found by two lucky hunters, Donavyn Fehd, 7, who won a custom Perimeter skatedeck with grip tape, and Camdin Erickson, 4, who won a stuffed bunny. The rest of the eggs were filled with wristbands, stickers and more. The PFSP is still raising funds to build the skatepark addition to Goodyear Park and has a variety of ways to donate, from a PayPal donation on the website at www.portageskatepark.org, to writing a personal check for a tax deductible donation, or buying a personalized brick to be used in the construction of the park. Pictured from left are Jessica Meier holding Gabryella Meier, Donavyn Fehd, Kyle Little, Camdin Erickson and Ethan Erickson.

Is my (grand)child old enough to skateboard?

Is my (grand)child old enough to skateboard?

I remember wondering this when my first grandson came home with skateboarding gear after visiting an uncle.  To me, skateboarding seemed risky and dangerous.  But as I watched him putting on his knee pads and helmet like a pro and say with a smile from ear to ear 'Watch me Grandma!' and sail down the driveway and sidewalk (they have …

Goodyear Park addition nears completion.

A crew from Mid Wisconsin Masonry works on a new restroom facility Thursday at Goodyear Park in Portage. The structure at the site of the Splash Pad is nearing completion. Pictured underneath the scaffolding is Vince Volkey, owner of Mid Wisconsin Masonry, and on top are Jake Volkey, his son, and Phil Czajka, at right. "The two bathroom facilities are both being built right now, one at Veterans Memorial Park and one at Goodyear Park," said Dan Kremer, director of Parks and Recreation for Portage. "For the skate park, we will be recruiting a design consultant this year. It’s in the budget and without something unforeseeable, the skate park will be constructed in 2016."
