Levee Cruise 2016

On Saturday September 10th The Portage Family Skatepark Project held it’s 4th annual Levee Cruise at Riverside Park in Portage WI. It was a wet and cool morning as people gathered to listen to some very awesome bands. This years Levee Cruise featured live music from Shadowsonic and Old Soul Society. The concert was free as was the food. Brats and hotdogs were grilled up by exited PFSP volunteers.
The PFSP Levee Cruise was started four years ago as the Portage Family Skatepark Project’s signature event to close our summer fundraising efforts each year. Every year the PFSP seeks business sponsors to help cover the costs for holding the event and adding to the total funds raised by the event each year. While we are celebrating the completion of the first section of Skatepark and the grand opening, which was held the previous afternoon, we are still raising funds to complete the Skatepark to it’s full design. The Levee Cruise is an event that is meant to bring the public, Public officials, and local Business together to build positive relationships, and show support for physical activity in the form of Skateboarding and Longboarding.
Participation in the Cruise was rather small with only a few registered riders. This might have been from the wet conditions, or perhaps the availability of so many other great events happening that weekend. However, the Cruise was a success as the PFSP broke records for the number of sponsors for this years cruise, and in the number of fresh faces who came to see their favorite bands and were introduced to the Portage Family Skatepark Project and our commitment to a stronger healthier Portage through the development of positive relationships.
Work on the 2017 Levee Cruise has already begun. If you have any suggestions about how to make this event better the PFSP is all ears.
