There’s No Reason We Can’t Get This Done For the Kids!
I had a conversation today with a woman who asked me what I had been doing lately. She asked if I was working at the current time. I told her no, I’ve been volunteering and writing. She said that’s full time work and I said yes it is. She asked me how I got involved with the Skate Park Project so I told her and than I told I wished I had gotten involved years ago with this project. She was floored when I told her there were groups that gave college scholarships to skateboarders. I almost cried when I said, ‘Ya, I kept wondering why these kids couldn’t get a park, then I realized it was because we kept telling them to get the park done. I can’t believe we, as a city, were expecting children to get an adult job done.” She was floored that there are groups that give college scholarships and kids skating internationally. I said yes, maybe we could have been giving some of the kids that were getting tickets, college scholarships and she agreed with me. She asked how much it costs and I said $210,000 and she said, ” What? That’s all – I said yes, that’s peanuts compared to some of the other projects we’ve pulled together and accomplished in this city. She agreed and I continued, “‘There’s no reason we can’t get this done for the kids. This community has pulled together in the past to get some pretty big projects done – like the auditorium, the stadium and she said – The Splash Pad. and I said yes. and she said,’So all you want is the checks so we can finish it?” I said yes.
Please consider helping us reach our goal – every $1.00, every $10, every 20, 30 or $300 or even $3000 will help get it done and getting the money will help put people to work and get them paychecks and that will boost our economy a little and bring more people in to boost the economy in the future. I know Portage can get this done!
